Happy 10th anniversary, big thumbs up to deVine Water

ENID, Okla. — Thumbs up to deVine Water for celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Max McDermott, deVine’s founder and owner, first purchased the land holding the artesian wells, from which it gets the water it sells in 2003.

Since opening, deVine has expanded from one employee to about 10; to a few customers to a variety of grocery stores, corporate companies and individuals; from one small building to a large facility. And now, deVine is searching for a warehouse in Oklahoma City.

DeVine markets both bulk water and bottled water. Customers also can custom-label their bottles.

The remarkable water can be purchased at both Jumbo Foods locations in Enid, and you can buy it at Whole Foods Market in Oklahoma City.

More thumbs up to members of the Opportunities Inc. Head Start staff for being trained to use a Spot camera, made by Pediavision, for vision screening for youths ages 5 and younger.

Since the subject of childhood eyesight is often overlooked, we appreciate this visionary effort.

The camera is computerized technology allowing individuals to be screened as young as 6 months old up through adults.

The technology in the Spot camera checks for the size of the pupil, determining if one is bigger than the other, which could indicate a tumor.

We also give thumbs up to the recent honorees at YWCA Enid’s annual meeting.

Carol Zaloudek, president of the board, presented the YWCA Volunteer of the Year Award to Marilyn Jenkins, a current board member and a chairwoman for the sponsorship drive and purse auction.

Gail Wynne, recipient of the 2012 Woman of the Year Award, presented the 2013 Woman of the Year award to Norma Ferguson.

From 1973 to 2002, Ferguson was director of professional services at Billings Fairchild Center, a care facility for the mentally disabled.

She has been involved with YWCA, spending six years on the board, serving as the chairwoman of the annual luncheon and giving her services to Girl Power, a youth program.

Ferguson was named Volunteer of the Year in 2006.

She also has been involved in the Juliette Low Society and was awarded the Francis Hesselbein Award for her service.
