Letter: Enid needs more places for senior citizens to live

Enid News & Eagle

— New hotels are being built in Enid rapidly.

What about residences for senior citizens? Most of the independent living facilities for senior citizens are too expensive.

We senior citizens either make too much to qualify for places or we don’t make enough to live in other places. It would be wonderful to have more duplexes built like the Civitan Homes — a nice neighborhood, a patio where we can place things and sit outside when the weather is nice, and a patio to put a charcoal grill if we so desire.

But, since these places are restrictive on how much we make, most of us can’t qualify. Some of these places have young people running them, and they do not and will not understand senior citizens.

We deserve to have a nice quiet place to call home. Some places have no patios and do not allow residents to place things outside their apartment to make it a real home.

We have worked hard our entire lives to have what we get in Social Security. We deserve better than to be treated like second-class citizens.

Homes are being built that “real people” can’t afford. Rental homes are few and far between and are not worth what the landlord is charging.

The deposits are as much as the rent. I understand they need a deposit, but not as much as the rent. It would be nice to be able to have a small dog or cat.

How about it, builders? Do you care about senior citizens, or are you like everyone else?
