Letter: Thanking the Northwest Okla. DAV Chapter 66

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — As the year 2012 draws to a close, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the organizations and individuals who supported Northwest Oklahoma Disabled American Veterans Chapter 66 throughout the year. Some supporters offer time and space every year; some are new supporters, which we hope will host us again in the coming years. But most importantly, our supporters touch veterans of past conflicts and the current unfolding conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For many veterans, “hope” is an elusive concept. I can still remember hearing some DAV members thanking those who have served in a variety of places, some in active combat and those who served in noncombat positions or locales. In the current conflicts, as in past conflicts, veterans are disproportionately represented among the homeless and hungry people who need our help.

It is my hope returning veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom might call upon the DAV to facilitate claims for disability, or to utilize our other services, to include using the DAV van to travel to the VA in Oklahoma City. Every weekday we transport veterans to the VA.

The DAValso can help in securing the discharge papers for every veteran that needs them.

And to those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, we of the DAV offer a hearty “Welcome Home!” We are here to help you reintegrate into society in any manner that we can. Give us a chance. Our offices are at 601 N. 26th St., and our phone number is (580) 242-6643.

And if any readers would like to make a donation, or facilitate a donation from an organization, we would challenge you to make arrangements for said donations by calling the above number, or by mailing your donation to the aforementioned address.
