Letter: Emerson faculty proud of efforts

ENID, Okla. — As members of the Emerson Middle School faculty, we want to respond to a letter published in the Enid News & Eagle.

Walk into any classroom throughout Emerson, and you will witness a range of instructional strategies in practice. You may see whole group instruction or you may see a small group of students with a teacher while other students are working collaboratively in groups. You also will observe co-teaching, in which instructional time is shared by two teachers. Obviously, Emerson faculty does not adhere to only one type of instructional practice. We continually strive for active student engagement at all times within all classrooms, and that requires a variety of methods — not just one.

Our Emerson administration is supportive of the teachers and encourages teachers to think outside of the box. Through weekly Professional Learning Communities, we are given the opportunity to openly communicate within our subject area and discuss what is and what is not working for students. It is through these conversations we are able to implement new methods or try new instructional practices. We are also given the freedom to try something innovative if what is currently taking place in the classroom is not working. These weekly meetings are led by teacher leaders not by administration.

Emerson faculty prides itself in working collaboratively among grade levels and across content areas. We also pride ourselves in meeting our student’s needs through a variety of instructional methods. Daily, we endeavor to follow our school’s motto, “Every Student — Every Time.” We work with the best administration in Enid Public Schools and with the best faculty. Our parents and our students are incredible, and we are proud of the work all of us achieve each and every day.
