Two big shows, two big sellouts for Enid Event Center

ENID, Okla. — Thumbs up to the folks at Global Spectrum.

The Reba McEntire concert set for June 21 at Enid Event Center is a sellout.

That’s two big names recently and two sellout concerts. The first was Darius Rucker last month.

A lot of the folks coming to see McEntire will be from out of town, just as many who went to see Rucker were. That means a lot of extra money for Enid restaurants and hotels.

Good job on attracting some quality entertainment to Enid.

THUMBS UP

Thumbs up to the fourth-graders at Prairie View Elementary School who participate in the Kid Witness news program.

They are students in Lori Painter’s class and are national finalists in the Panasonic Kid Witness News New Vision competition.

That earned them a trip to New York City May 8-11.

We wish them luck and hope to hear good news when the time comes for their trip.

THUMBS UP

Two Enid Public Schools employees deserve congratulations for their outstanding service.

First, Karen Heizer, Hoover Elementary School principal, was named Principal of the Year by the Oklahoma Association for Elementary School Principals. She will represent the state in national competition later this year.

Then, Karl White, EPS interim superintendent and chief financial officer, was named 2014 School Business Official of the Year by Oklahoma Association of School Business Officials.  He was business manager, then chief financial officer of EPS for 29 years.

Prior to that, he was high school science teacher, high school principal and superintendent at Waukomis Public Schools.

Congratulations to both of these outstanding school employees.

THUMBS DOWN

We always hate to hear about senseless acts of vandalism.

The latest came recently when someone spray painted the back wall of Your Family Church.

Our big question when we hear about vandalism is: Why?

What possible satisfaction can someone gain from defacing someone else’s property? We hope the vandals are caught and prosecuted.
