Letter: Careful what you ask for

ENID, Okla. — The article in Tuesday’s Eagle Oct. 9 on Page A8 excites a curiosity. The necessity for an atheist lobby seems misplaced. What is being lobbied against? Aren’t we looking a gift horse in the mouth? It is the umbrella of the Christian faith that protects the freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment for all faiths or no faith to practice as one chooses, as long as it does not violate our laws or inhibit other faiths. Jesus Christ died for all humanity, anti-Christian Moslems, anti-God atheists, pagans, secularists, peoples of all faiths, sinners in their sin, everybody. How is “separation of church and state” (which in no where appears in founding documents) being violated? The First Amendment is a restriction against the state, not against the citizens, that is presently being violated when the state dictates where and when we can pray and what the church must do or not do. It is the church that is being violated, and God, (pertaining to) where He can go and not go. God transcends all religions and is not limited. To mock Him did not go well for a big Philistine.
