Letter: Thank you, Eric Benson

Enid News and Eagle

ENID, Okla. — Recently, I’ve noticed a lot of negative comments about Eric Benson and his running of the city.

First let me say, I’ve lived here since 1973, and in my opinion, he’s been the best city manager we’ve had. Only a few of us have been fortunate enough to have worked closely with Eric.

Eric chose Enid to live in when he could have chosen any city in the United States after his career in the military was over. He spent at least 20 years fighting for the rights of those people to criticize him. He also lost a son fighting for those same rights.

There always has to be someone who has a dream for the future and that someone was Eric. Ernie Currier and his council chose Eric to be the new city manager. They set in motion what Enid is today.

Under his administration: a very viable economy, a full Main Street, Enid Events Center, a remodel of Convention Hall, a new water pollution plant, new fire house, water towers, water line replacements, purchase of the old Safeway building, expansion of the airport, the dog park and many other upgrades to the city. He has made our city more business friendly.

He and Barbara Benson are a credit to our community. I can assure you that Eric and I did not always agree on everything, but before taking office, we did agree that any time we disagreed; we would go behind closed doors in his office with our Dr Peppers and work out our differences.

I found him to be not only a good friend, but someone with the city of Enid’s interest at heart.

Thank you, Mr. Benson, for all that you’ve done!
