Letter: ‘Crooked politicians’

ENID, Okla. — Back in 1906, Winston Churchill, the author, not the future prime minister of England, wrote in his book “Coniston” these thoughts: “The era of the first six presidents had closed and a new era had begun. Certain gentlemen, with a pious belief in democracy, but with a firmer determination to get to the top arose and got on top. So many of these gentlemen arose in the different states, and they were so clever, and they found so many chinks in the Constitution to crawl through and steal the people’s chestnuts ...” It is clear he was thinking of the constitutional rights of the people, being stolen by unscrupulous politicians of his day.

The year 2016 is just around the corner, 110 years since Churchill wrote his concerns, and here we are, facing another presidential election, with the liberal media preparing us for the coronation of Hillary Clinton as the first woman president of the United States. Their reasoning it’s only right she should have her turn.

Hillary, of course, has every right to run for president, and win it, but my concern is that she would continue the push to radicalize the intentions of the Constitution, and so, the democracy which our forefathers so carefully and thoughtfully crafted will, essentially, he gutted, and a hostile, authoritarian type of government will replace it.

“First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth,” he said.
