ENID, Okla. —
WILL ROGERS ON FARM RELIEF AND THE VALUE OF DAUGHTERS
COLUMBIA, S. C. — Feb. 14, 1927. The Senate relieved the farmers on Friday; the House of Representatives is supposed to relieve them tomorrow. Rotation of crops and less automobiles will relieve them whenever they decide to try it.
P.S. — Just had lunch with the governor of South Carolina. He has nine grown daughters. What would the wide-open spaces of the West give for some Governors like that? In a few years he will have enough grandchildren to vote him Governor for life.
AS TO PRESIDENTS, WILL ROGERS DISAGREES WITH DR. BUTLER
ASHEVILLE, N. C. — Feb. 15, 1927. I never thought we would live to see the day when Congressman Upshaw of Georgia knew more than President Nicholas Murray Butler of Columbia, but it has happened. The Doctor says our next President must be a wet. He may know schoolmarming, but he don’t know American sentiment outside New York.
Mind you, I am very fond of the Professor. He said he was going to give me a degree just as soon as he can think of one to give me.
Well, after the next election he can give me one for ignorance with a smattering of political insight.
From the Mayor who gathers other people’s ideas all over the country instead of just expounding his own.
WILL ROGERS MEDITATES ON FISTICUFFS IN CONGRESS
PINEHURST, N. C. — Feb. 16, 1927. Two of my Congressional friends had a fight in Congress yesterday — Sol Bloom of New York and Blanton of Texas. That’s three fights in there in three days, and nobody has been hit yet.
If their political sight is as bad as their aim, we better call for a new election. What this country needs is legislators that can both knock each other out for good. That’s our only salvation.
The Mayor who won’t give up his seat in Beverly Hills without being bought off.
WILL ROGERS NOT WORRIED OVER RECALL TALK IN BEVERLY
FLORENCE, S. C. — Feb. 17, 1927. Haven’t paid much attention to that talk out in Beverly Hills about going to recall the Mayor. I am not afraid of that. They can’t let me out. I know too much. Why, I will rock the very foundation of the social strata of screen, oil and realtor business.
The Mayor From Now On.
P. S. – If they monkey with me, I will undo all the good that Will Hays has done for years.
