Enid News and Eagle
ENID, Okla. —
Thumbs up to a heartwarming story for this holiday season.
Randy Matthews, who is from Dover and lives in Oklahoma City, has known Ralph Wilson for many years.
He recently proved his friendship by taking the homeless Wilson out of the cold and finding him a place to live.
At a reduced rate, Matthews bought a trailer from Jeff Jackson, a car salesman at Stevens Ford in Enid. The generous Jackson and his wife furnished it with pots, pans, a stove, a space heater, food and clothing.
Now Wilson’s trailer is parked behind Matthews’ work office and has electricity extended to it. He also has water, although there is no bathroom in the trailer, Jackson said.
“Times are hard, everybody needs a little help,” Matthews said. “I don’t have a million bucks, but I have a million reasons to give thanks. That’s enough reason to help somebody.”
More thumbs up to Tina Pulis and her husband, Chuck, for traveling to Corpus Christi, Texas, recently to deliver a lifetime of history to the USS Lexington Museum.
Pulis’ late uncle Bryan was stationed aboard the USS Lexington in the early 1930s. His donated items will make a great addition to the history of the Lexington, an aircraft carrier that saw service in World War II.
The USS Lexington CV2, nicknamed “Lady Lex,” was an early aircraft carrier built for the United States Navy. She was the lead ship of the Lexington class.
Big thumbs up for Detective Tim Doyle being selected by the Police Civil Service Commission to be Enid Police Department’s next sergeant.
Doyle joined the EPD in 2005 and has served in the Uniform Services and Investigative Services divisions as a patrol officer and detective.
Doyle is a current member of the department’s SWAT Team and the Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
Finally, thumbs up to Enid’s Clint Chelf for being named second-team quarterback on the All-Big 12 team behind Baylor QB Bryce Petty.
The senior Chelf connected on 131 of 234 passes for 1,792 total yards and 15 scores with six picks as the Cowboys finished 10-2 in the regular season.
He rushed for 321 yards on 53 carries with six touchdowns.
Best of luck in the Cotton Bowl, Clint!
