It was good Enid could host golden retriever show

The recent Golden Retriever Club National Specialty Show is a great example of the type of event Enid can do a wonderful job of hosting.

The show was Oct. 20-28 at Groendyke Ranch and Chisholm Trail Expo Center. More than 700 golden retrievers took part, and that translated into a lot of people – from 44 states and six foreign countries – in town for more than a week.

Each year, the show is held in a different region of the country. This year was the central region’s turn. One reason Enid was chosen was the Expo Center. The facility provided the room show organizers needed to hold most of the events in one location, which was a plus for the show. Having Groendyke Ranch close by for the field events was another plus.

Enid has good facilities for a wide range of events. And, we have the hotel space to accommodate the large number of participants drawn to events such as the retriever show.

We certainly hope the Expo Center continues to reach out and attract a variety of events.

For one, events that attract people from across the country are good for business here. When Enid plays host to a multi-day event, the participants have to stay somewhere, and they have to eat. It just makes good business sense to fill up our hotel space and restaurants.

Secondly, bringing in a variety of events and shows gives area residents more entertainment options.

We are glad Enid was host to the Golden Retriever Club National Specialty Show, and we hope organizers look to us again next time it’s the region’s turn to host the event again. And, as we said, we hope to see many other such events here in the years to come.
