Residents and film crew each made the most of special event

THUMBS UP

Enid residents seemed to have fun last week when a crew from Hollywood was in town to film scenes for the movie “The Killer Inside Me.”

Many residents were chosen to be extras in the film and may get their chance to be on the big screen when the movies comes out next year.

Enid also apparently was a gracious host. One person involved in the filming said people here were the most cooperative they have encountered in Oklahoma. Scenes also were shot in Guthrie, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Congratulations Enid for putting your best foot forward.

THUMBS UP

Thumbs up to Cody McPherson, an Autry Technology Center student and Drummond High School graduate who recently became the first Autry student to serve as an officer on a national student organization.

He is a welding student at Autry Tech and was elected to the National College/Post Secondary SkillsUSA officer team last week during the national conference. SkillsUSA is a national non-profit student organization, and officers are responsible for planning and conducting leadership workshops and assisting with leadership and state conferences across the nation.

This is another example of how good the quality of instruction is at Autry Tech.

THUMBS UP

Thumbs up to Ann Herndon, who recently retired after a 41-year career in education, including 40 years with Enid Public Schools as a teacher, administrator and director of personnel.

During those years, she inspired many students who went on to fulfill their dreams.

Now, she plans to spend time with her children during retirement.

THUMBS DOWN

Thumbs down to North Korea for its continued provocative actions.

The communist country, which has defied the world with its nuclear weapons program, fired four short-range missiles on Thursday, then followed that up with two mid-range missile launches Saturday.

The United Nations and China, which appears to have the most influence over the rogue country and its leader, Kim Jong-il, need to step up and get the situation under control.
