Robert “Bob” Vincent Garis

ENID — The Mass of Christian burial for Robert “Bob” Vincent Garis, 95-year-old Enid resident, will be noon Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Kevin Ratterman will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. A wake service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Henninger-Hinson Funeral  Chapel.

Bob was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Enid, Okla., to Adam and Georgia (Slover) Garis Jr. and died quietly at home Friday, Jan. 7, 2011.

He attended Enid schools. He began his working career at Enid Planing Mill in 1933.

In 1938, he married Dorris Elaine Cameron in Roswell, New Mexico. During World War II, he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. He returned to Enid, working at Vance Air Force Base repairing training aircraft. He later worked for Longbell Lumber Co., before opening Northwest Sash and Door in 1963. He retired from Caton Mill Works in 1990.

He coached numerous little league football and baseball teams in the early Sixties. He was an active church member and built many fixtures for St. Joseph’s School and St. Francis Xavier Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his sons, John Garis of Enid, Joe Garis of Cement, Okla., Jerome Garis of Duncan, Okla.; daughters, Judy and husband Elmer Allen of Paris, Texas, Janet Garis of Enid, Joan Boyette of Stillwater, Jean and husband Gail Batman of Vicenza, Italy, Jane and husband Andy Kecskes of San Diego, Calif., Jakita Haws of Enid, Jacinta and husband Tom Epperson of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Jones of Oklahoma City, and Julia and husband Mike DeWeese of Collierville, Tenn; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. On Jan. 7, 2011, at 11 p.m., a new great-great-grandchild Walker Vincent Gantz Allen was born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorris, in 1990 and one son, Jim Garis.

     De was born June 2, 1926, in Medford, the son of George Alexander and Myrtle Biby Hamilton. De graduated from Gore High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1944 and was discharged on June 13, 1946. After De returned to Medford, he and Emma Jean Carrier were married on Sept. 29, 1946, in Nash. De worked as a butcher and retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford and was ordained as a Deacon in 1951.

     Pauline was born April 8, 1924, at Butler, in Custer County, Okla., the daughter of Walter and Orla Baird Connolly. She and Loren E. Hopkins were married on Sept. 14, 1952, in Jet and they made their home in Jet, where she continued to live until April 16, 2014. She was a homemaker and caregiver who cared for others many times. Pauline was a member of the First Christian Church in Nash and also was a member of Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church. She was an active member of Jet Industrious Oklahoma Home and Community Education organization.
