John Riesen

ENID, OK — Funeral for John Riesen, 84, will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Scott Whittenburg and the Rev. Kenneth Wade will officiate. Burial will be in Waukomis Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

John was born January 24, 1929, on the family farm east of Bison, OK, to Henry and Vera (Deering) Riesen and died October 17, 2013, in Enid, OK.

He grew up and attended school at Pioneer and went to church at Pleasant Valley. He graduated from high school in 1947. He attended Oklahoma A&M College and graduated in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in education and Master of Science degree in 1953.

He was called to service September 1953 and stationed at Camp Chaffee, Fort Smith, AR, then sent to Sandia Base in Albuquerque, N.M., in June 1955. He was discharged in August 1955. He started teaching at Pioneer mid-August 1955 and retired in May 1994.

He married Arvella Kremeier, March 19, 1971. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2008. They lived in Enid and raised two sons, David and Tim.

After retiring from teaching, he worked the farm. He was a member of Pioneer Education Association, OEA, NEA, Oklahoma Coaches Association, ORTA and St Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was baptized at the Riesen family farm pond in the summer of 1946 and confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church on December 2, 1973.

Survivors include his sons, Tim Riesen of Douglas, OK, and David (Mechele) Riesen of Waukomis, OK, and a sister, Phyllis Pearson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella, and his parents, one brother and one sister.

    Larry Gene Highfill, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his home in Olympia, Wash. He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Mooreland, Okla., to Kenneth and Dortha (Berry) Highfill.
    He grew up there and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1960.
    After high school, he attended college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where he received a degree in mechanical engineering.
    Larry was commissioned in 1965, upon completion of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and served for 24 years in the Air Force.
    He served two tours in Vietnam, flying A-1 Skyraider attack bombers with the 1st Special Operations Squadron, and was the recipient of three Distinguished Flying Crosses for heroism, 11 air medals, a Purple Heart, and numerous other medals and awards.

    Mrs. Pralle was born May 8, 1928, in Kiefer, Okla., to Joseph Fred and Anna Evans Keyes Dose and died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Dallas, Texas.
    She was raised in Drumright, Okla.
    She received her undergraduate degree in music education from Oklahoma State University and her master’s degree in education from Phillips University. She moved to Garber, Okla., upon her marriage.
    A strong believer in the arts and learning, she dedicated her life to teaching, beginning her career as a band director and music educator.
    After her children entered school, she returned to the classroom, teaching elementary grades and gifted children until her retirement.

    Ray was born June 8, 1974, in Alva, Okla., to Jackie Lee Brown and Valerie Ann Truesdale and passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2014, at his home.
    Ray attended school in Waynoka and moved to Enid in 2002.
    Ray is survived by his mother, Ann Seiger of Enid; father, Jackie Lee Brown of Jay, Okla.; three children, Maliachi Lee, Destiny Ann and Raven Nichol Brown; two brothers, Paul Swartz of Kinsley, Kan., and Hickie Swartz of Austin, Texas; several aunts and uncles and other family members.

    Keith was born Jan. 14, 1919, and was raised on a farm southwest of Pond Creek.
    During the Cherokee Strip Opening of 1892, his grandfather staked a claim after jumping off a train.
    Keith graduated from Pond Creek High School and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, where he distinguished himself as a member of both boxing teams and became a lifelong boxing fan.
    He married his high school sweetheart, Glorene Faye Reynolds in 1940, and worked in aircraft manufacturing and assembly plants in Wichita and Ponca City.
    He served in Europe during and after WWII. While stationed in Germany, he attended some of the Nuremberg trials.
