Mary Frances Clark Sawyer

ENID, OK — Mary Frances Clark Sawyer was born to Walker Fredrick and Mary Elizabeth Ittner Clark in Glencoe, Okla., on Sept. 2, 1924. She passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Okla., having reached the age of 89 years and 23 days.

Her childhood was spent in Glencoe, where she attended Glencoe Public Schools, and graduating with the class of 1941.

During and following World War II, she worked in the Oklahoma City offices of Armour & Company Meat Packers and also at the offices of Safeway Stores.

She married Clarence Dowler in Oklahoma City on Nov. 22, 1944. They had twin daughters, one who died at birth. The remaining daughter, Shirley, made her home with Orvil Sawyer and Mary following their marriage in Pawnee, Okla., on Jan, 26, 1953. Orvil brought two children to the marriage, Eddie and Lynne, who Mary loved and considered her own.

Mary was an active member of Glencoe United Methodist Church, where she taught the kindergarten class for over 28 years. She was also active in the United Methodist Women organization, and had served as communion steward for over 50 years.  She was active in PTA and the Glencoe Alumni Association, holding offices in each, and also belonged to the Rambo Rustler’s Club and the Worthwhile Club. She enjoyed square dancing and bowling with her husband in earlier years. In later years, she loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her, and considered the time she spent with them a special gift from God.

Mary is survived by son, Eddie Sawyer and wife Loretta, Westwego, La.; daughter, Lynne Campbell and husband Dennis, Enid, Okla.; granddaughters, Cindy Beyer and husband Damon, Katy, Texas, Pam Ryan and husband Bill, Champaign, Ill., Anita Luetkemeyer and husband Mark, Enid, Okla., Mona Campbell, Fort Worth, Texas, and Kimberly Keeton, Perry, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Anna Beyer, Drew Beyer, Maggie Kaufman, Nancy Campbell, Russell Andrew, Jonathan Allameh, Kali Crow and Will Ryan; sister, Ethel Mae Adkison, Glencoe, Okla.; brothers, Marion Clark and Fred Clark, both of Glencoe, Okla.; plus numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Orvil; twin daughters, Carol Jean Dowler and Shirley Ann Dowler; her parents; and her brother, Leonard Clark.

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Glencoe United Methodist Church, Glencoe, Okla., with Rev. Ralph Wangler officiating. Interment will be in Glencoe Cemetery under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Glencoe United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 30, Glencoe, OK 74032.

    Alvin F. Fortune was born on Feb. 4, 1934, at Dane Township in Major County, Okla., the son of Harry and Mable Warner Fortune, and he breathed his last breath on the sunny bright Saturday of July 26, 2014, in Cherokee.
    Alvin and Janet Fortune were married, and three children were born: Danny, Timmy and Clayton. Alvin married Faith Lovely on Dec. 30, 1978, and this union gave him four more sons: Randy, Ryan, Rory and Cory Lovely.
    Alvin and Faith owned and operated a grocery store and meat processing plant in Jet for 24 years. They still had time for fun things, such as boating, fishing, bike riding and playing card games.
    He lay peaceful and quiet. This is a man and a life that is cherished. Alvin was loved as a husband, father, son, grandpa and friend for 80 years. He lived his life building a family that will carry his memory for generations to come. Faithful and dedicated, he loved the Lord with all his heart. Strong and proud, Alvin worked throughout his life providing for those he loved the most. Gentle and tender, this man adored his children and grandchildren blessing his home. Fun and excited, he challenged the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his boys by his side (and a granddaughter or two.) Caring and devoted, Alvin affectionately loved his wife, Faith.

    The graveside service for Mrs. Margaret E. Bixler, 88, of Owasso, formerly of Enid, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the Memorial Hill Cemetery, Waynoka. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. today, July 29, 2014, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
    She was born on Sept. 15, 1925, to Raleigh R. and Margaret Peters Hesler in Avard, Okla., and passed away on July 27, 2014, in Owasso.
    She grew up in the Waynoka, Avard area. She graduated from Waynoka High School in 1945. She married Hiram Eugene Bixler on Nov. 7, 1943. They made Enid their home in the early 1950s. Margaret was a wonderful and caring wife and mother. She was employed as a bookkeeper for S&Q Clothier, Coca-Cola, Midwestern Life and Durheim Appliance. She was a former member of Central Christian Church.
    She is survived by four children, Judy and husband, David Durheim of Little Rock, Ark., Scott and wife, Kathy Bixler of Wichita, Kan., Cindy Ronck of Oklahoma City, and Joni and husband Tim Miller of Owasso; 10 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; one brother, John and Barbara Hesler of Beaver; and several nieces and nephews.

    Maurita was born March 17, 1930, in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Vaughn and Mary Belle Inglish McClane, and passed away July 25, 2014, at her residence. She was a graduate of Carrier High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Dale Daniels Sept. 22, 1950, in Enid, Okla. Maurita was employed for several years with Southwestern Bell. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies’ Circle. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to Colorado.
