Kenneth 'Ken' Payne

ENID, Okla. — Memorial service for Kenneth “Ken” Payne, 55, of Enid, will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel, with his Uncle Ted Black officiating. He was cremated, upon his request, under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps.

He was born Oct. 29, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Barion Wright and Ada Marie Smith Payne and passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Enid.

He attended school in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, graduating from Trinity High school.

Growing up he was involved with the Catholic faith, serving as an altar boy at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Fort Worth.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1977 to 1981, stationed in Hawaii on a navy ship.

He married Suzanna “Sue” Phares in 1984, in Granbury, Texas.

He was a draftsman for Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant and LTV Coleman Co.

He moved his family to Enid and worked in construction. He owned Payne Construction and Drafting. He also did maintenance and home remodeling for many businesses until he retired due to his health. He was an avid Nascar, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Longhorn Fan. He was an artist whose favorite things to draw were animals and houses. He loved his family very much, especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; son, David Levi Payne; daughters, April Lynn Payne, and Melody Dawn Holden and John Blackwell; three grandsons, Landon Kusik, Samuel and Austin Holden, all of Enid; his parents, B.W. and Marie Payne of Granbury, Texas; one brother and one sister; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and special friends Ruth and Richard Simonton.

He was preceded by his special grandparents, Walter and Flavia Black, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton; his in-laws, Leroy and Avis Phares; his brother, Rob Payne; and many friends.

The family asks that everyone sign the book, smell the flowers, and enjoy his artwork.

Memorials can be given to Hospice Circle of Love with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
