Nelda Crow Moehle

ENID, Okla. — Nelda Crow Moehle died peacefully at her home in Maine on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Fellows will officiate. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery.

Nelda was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Wichita, Kan, to Ethel Mae Bridges Babb and Rev. Joseph Riley Babb.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from North Texas State University and married Frank Crow in June 1944.

Father Crow served as rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Enid from 1964 until his death in 1967.

Nelda later married Thomas O. Moehle, rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Ponca City.

Nelda was a loving wife and mother, a church musician and music educator for 50 years, enhancing the lives of countless children. She served God in His church all her life, serving as clergy wife and as vestryman, in altar guild, missions, Eucharistic ministries and countless music ministries. She was instrumental in planting two churches in Maine and Oklahoma.

Nelda is survived by two devoted daughters, Suzanne (Crow) Newton of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Joanne (Crow) Carrube of Enid; five grandchildren, Zachary Keefe, Sarah Libby, Kathleen Woods, all of New England, and Jonathan and Jennifer Carrube of Enid.

She was much loved by her six great-grandchildren and many others who chose to adopt her as such.

She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Crow III in 1966; her husband, Rev. Frank Crow Jr. in 1967, and by her second husband, Rev. Tom Moehle of Ponca City in 1977.

    He lived in Texas, then moved to Paoli, Okla., near Wynnewood for five years. He later moved to Enid, where he began working for Peerless Ice Cream at age 15.
    He graduated from Enid High School in 1947.

    Max is survived by his wife, Verla Long; children, Ken Laye (wife Mitzi) of Weatherford, Texas, Linda Taylor (husband Jeff) of Enid, Okla., Tammy Qualls (husband Steve) of Austin, Texas, and Tim Long (wife Julie) of Owasso, Okla.; sister, Juanita Westfahl of Okeene; brother, Keith Long (wife Judy) of Canton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Max was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Beulah Long; his brother, Cletus Long; and three grandsons.
    Max was born in Longdale, Okla., on July 4, 1931.
