Hennessey, OK — HENNESSEY – Funeral service for Carol Ann Johnson, 78, is 2 p.m. today, March 18, 2014, at First Christian Church, officiated by the Rev. Mickey Moery. Burial will follow in Hennessey Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Carol was born in Enid, Okla., on Jan. 6, 1936, to Paul W. and Manila Burke Murray and died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid.

She married Virgil Ray Johnson at the First Christian Church in Hennessey on Nov. 7, 1954.

Carol graduated from Hennessey High School and attended Central State College (UCO).

She worked as a secretary at the ASCS office in Kingfisher, the Hennessey Sale Barn and later at Western Tank Trucks, where she retired in 1981.

Carol was active in the Order of Eastern Star 37 and was a former Worthy Matron. She was a member of Turkey Creek Hennessey Ladies Golf Association and Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW.

Her hobbies included playing golf, piano, music, reading, writing, working with pre-K at The Commons and playing bingo.

Carol was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a choir member, organist and pianist for 25 years. She was also a deaconess and past chairwoman of the worship committee.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Ann Choate and husband Kevin of Enid, and Linda Kay Choate and husband Cris of Hennessey; one sister, Evelyn Shimanek of Enid; two brothers, Robert J. Murray and wife Cynthia of Shreveport, La., Richard Murray and wife Sue of Bixby, Okla.; three grandchildren, Sharon Choate Kline and husband David of Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Kay Choate Hobson and husband Brandon of Ponca City, Okla., and Cristopher Choate and wife Kendal of Hennessey; five great-grandchildren, Sedona Kline, Ian Hobson, Holden Hobson, Adler Choate and Blakely Choate.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Virgil, who died Jan. 31, 2009.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested that memorial donations be made in her name to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or First Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.

    Frances “Sis” was born April 29, 1925, to Bruce and Nellie Fauchier Jones in Brownville, Texas, and passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014.
    She grew up in the Harmony community, southwest of Hennessey and attended Victory and Hennessey schools.
    Frances was a member of Harmony Church.

    H. Kenneth “Kenny” Miller, 92, of Welda, Kan., formerly of Garfield County, Okla., died Friday, July 18, 2014.
    Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville, Kan.
    He was born in Garfield County and married Norma Fay Wyman in 1941, in Douglas. They farmed in Covington until 1946. She died in 1989.
    Survivors include a sister, Mary Lou Beopple of Garfield County.

    Rick graduated from Fairview High School as Valedictorian in 1974. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with honors. Rick was on the honor roll every year he attended OSU. While attending school at OSU, he was involved with the initial planning stages of the Glass Mountain State Park, northwest of Fairview.  He traveled to London, England, often, where he loved to spend time and loved anything to do with plants, gardening and flowers.
