Published 6-27-13

ENID, Okla. — Frank Deon Christensen went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2013, at the age of 67. He has now joined his parents, Frank Dewey and Sophia Minerva (Moler) Christensen, in heaven.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. June 29th at First Christian Church, Mutual, OK. Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Midland, TX.

Deon was born in Mooreland, OK, October 12, 1945, and grew up on the family farm near Mutual, Oklahoma. He worked his way through Phillips University, Enid, OK. During this time, he also earned his pilot’s license. He enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served for four years. He earned a master’s degree in geology from the University of Texas at Dallas. He made his home in Midland, TX, where he was a geologist for the past 39 years. However, his first love was flying, which led to his later vocation as a flight instructor.

Deon loved teaching people. He was a professor for more than 10 years in the aviation program at Midland College. He always had lots of ideas and had hoped to one day write a book. He was happiest when he was outdoors. He loved to hunt and was an excellent marksman. His favorite gun was a .22 rifle. He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and he enjoyed making recordings for Recording Library of West Texas. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Midland, Deon served in Golf Carts Ministry and on Trail Partners Ministry that mentors with students at Sam Houston Elementary School. He will truly be missed by all.

He was a loving husband to Dianna Christensen. He leaves a son, Scott Christensen of Edgar, WI; one stepson, Sean Chaney and wife Andi; two granddaughters of Midland, TX; and stepdaughter Katheleen Chaney of San Angelo, TX. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Dr. Marion Christensen and wife Roberta of Kiowa, KS; Bob Christensen and wife Mary Beth of Mutual, OK; Tom Christensen and wife Gena of Mutual, OK; a sister, Dee Snyder and husband Trigg of Enid, OK; in-laws Robert and Nancy Gray of Midland, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 3301 Sinclair Ave, Midland, TX 79707 or to Recording Library of West Texas, 2012 W. Cuthbert Ave, Midland, TX, 79701.

Arrangements are under direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory in Midland, TX. Condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.
