Charles Cecil Nieman

ENID — Funeral service for Charles Nieman, 77, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at Alva Nazarene Church, with Rev. Gregg Counce officiating. Interment will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home, Alva. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the funeral home.

Charles Nieman, son of Clarence and Myrtle Nieman, was born Nov. 10, 1935, on the home place west of Alva and passed away June 12, 2013, in Boise City, Okla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister and brother, Lela Jean and Billy Dean Nieman, and his granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Stroud.

Charles is survived by his wife, Yvonne; three children, Debbie Stroud and Tony Ishmael, Roger Nieman and wife Cathy, and Jeff Nieman and wife Sherri; two brothers, Dennis Nieman and wife LaVona, and Clifford Nieman and wife Lauresta of Guthrie; sister, Jane McMurphy; six grandchildren, Eric Stroud and wife Elise, Kimberly Stroud, Cody Nieman and wife Charlie Dawn, Matthew Nieman, Andrew Nieman and Elizabeth Nieman; sisters-in-law, LaVida Anderson and husband Elmo, and Wilma Jean Johnson; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made through the funeral home to the MS Society.

    Graveside service for Phyllis Elaine Thornburg, 59, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Mausoleum in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Lester Lowry officiating. Visitation with the family is 5:30-7 p.m. today, April 15, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
    Phyllis was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Hominy, Okla., to Ilo Wayne and Charlene (Buchanan) Watkins and passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Enid.
    Phyllis grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High.
    She worked as a nurse aide and was working at Furrs Cafeteria when she had to retire due to health issues.
    On Oct. 22, 1989, she married Leroy Thornburg in Fort Smith, Ark. They lived in Enid, Fort Smith and returned to Enid in 1990s. Phyllis was a member of Evangel Assembly of God Church.

    Celebration of Life service for Joan Dickey, 85, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alan Seibel officiating.  
    Joan was born to Glenn and Mabel (Robertson) Stewart on March 20, 1929, in Enid, Okla., and passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Enid.
    Joan married Ivan Dickey on Dec. 24, 1946, in Kansas, and graduated from Enid High School in 1947.
    Joan was a homemaker for 20 years before moving to Green River, Wyo., where they owned One-hour Martinizing. She took care of her husband, Ivan, until he passed away.
    Joan moved back to Enid, where she owned Holiday Accent with her sister-in-law. Joan also cared for her father and brother during their illness. She was a member of Davis Park Christian Church. Joan volunteered at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

  • Wilma L. Suenram

    Funeral service for Wilma L. Suenram, 67, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at New Hope United Methodist Church, with Dr. Sheila Combs-Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Waukomis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today, April 15, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
    Wilma was born March 16, 1947, in Hershey, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Luella Bricker and passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014.
    She was a graduate of Hershey High School, Hershey, Pa., in 1965.
    She was united in marriage to Dennis Suenram on Feb. 19, 1972.
    Wilma was employed by Wal-Mart for over 14 years. She was actively involved in her children’s school activities being a member of the PTA. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and later with New Hope United Methodist Church.

    Mass of Christian burial for Benford Walker, 86, of Carrier, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Irwin as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family is 7-8:30 p.m. today, April 15, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
    Benford was born to A.C. and Florence (Franklin) Walker on Oct. 17, 1927, in Enid, Okla., and passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at his home.
    Benford attended Carrier School and graduated in 1946.
    He served one year in the United States Army in Germany.
    On April 15, 1950, he married Virginia Naberhaus in Enid.

    Lee was the first child, and only daughter, of A.C. “Bert” and Mabel (Schwandt) Hafner, born on Oct. 2, 1926, in the rural Kansas community of Winkler.
    At the age of six, her parents and younger brother, Roger, moved to the Hunter, Okla., farm where she grew up.
    Some of her longest and closest friendships were formed with her classmates at Hunter High School. The Class of 1944 continued to remain in touch and Lee was instrumental in planning their reunions. She attended Phillips University, but her high school sweetheart had a bigger impact and they married in 1944.
    The oil field activity in western Oklahoma and Kansas lured them to various towns, where they spent their young married years finally settling in Hoisington, Kan.
    Lee was an assistant manager at the Griffin Hotel. Her hotel career ended with the birth of daughter, Lynn, and within 13 months, the draw of home brought them back to the Hunter area, where they farmed and founded an independent oil contracting business. Son, Bradford, was born in 1954, and the family was complete.

    Marylin E. Carpenter, 92, of Harrison, Tenn., passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014.
    A native of Arkansas, she lived in Oklahoma most of her life before moving back to Hot Springs, Ark., and then to Tennessee.
    She was a member of the Christian Church and was the wife of the late George Arthur Carpenter and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jean Carpenter.
    Survivors include two sons, James L. Carpenter of Harrison, Tenn., and Donald J. Carpenter of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
