Susan Denise Marcucci

ENID, OK — A memorial service for Susan Denise Marcucci will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Henninger-Hinson Chapel.

Susan went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, after a long, painful struggle against scleroderma. Susan was born Oct. 15, 1957, in Crawfordsville, Ind.

She was a graduate of North Montgomery High School and served six years in the U.S. Navy. She also was a Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., graduate.

Where ever Susan lived she served her communities in as many ways as she could. Susan founded many programs that are still in use today. She was executive director for the YWCA in Enid, Okla., for a number of years and was acknowledged for an award from the Oklahoma ACLU on women’s rights. Susan graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School in Norman, Okla., with a Juris Doctor degree.

Susan is survived by her loving, faithful caretaker lifemate, Jeffery Karns, an Enid, Oklahoma attorney; daughter, Moria Marcucci; granddaughter, Allona and grandson, Hunter of Delphi, Ind.; stepchildren, Tamara Anders and her son, Alec, Melinda Karns and her son, Max, and John Karns, all of Wichita, Kan.; parents, Carolyn Swenke Mouat and her husband, Col. John Mouat of Titusville, Fla., and Betty and Mason Karns of Enid; sister, Teresa Gauthier and husband Brian and niece, Trish Gauthier, nephews, Steven Pittenger and Carl Gauthier of Columbus, Mont.; brother, Travis Mouat and wife Toni and their daughter Kate; former husband Thomas Marcucci; aunts and uncles, Bonnie (Ron) Peters and Rebecca (Don) Childress, Tulsa, Okla., Kathy Hutchinson and Sandy (Jim) Dishman, Braggs, Okla., Sharon (Ron) Kilngaman, (Carol) Swenke, Danville, Ind., Norma Swenke, Crawfordsville, Ind.; and numerous cousins.

Susan was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew; uncles, Louis Swenke, Fred Swenke, Don Holman and Robert Benny Hutchinson; stepfather, Larry Dean Brown; and grandparents, Betty and Carl Swenke.

Susan donated her remains to the Scleroderma Foundation in hopes a cure might be found for this dreadful disease.

In lieu of flowers, Susan wished donations be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA 01923. Checks made payable to the Scleroderma Foundation.
