Joan Humphrey

ENID, OK — Visitation for Joan Humphrey, 81, will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. today, Feb. 7, 2014, at Nash Christian Church. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb, 8, at Nash Christian Church, with the Revs. Dean Holt and Richard Craven officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery, Nash. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.

Joan was born Jan. 4, 1933, to Richard Gregory and Effa Wayman Parks in Chelsea, Okla. She died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at her home.  

She married Delmer Humphrey Dec. 7, 1952, at Davis Park Christian Church, Enid. They were married 48 years.

Joan was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Enid and Jet. They moved to Long Beech, Calif., where Delmer was in the Navy.

Later moving to Caldwell, Kan., he worked as a dozer operator. In 1957, they moved to Jet where they farmed. Joan would call everyone and sing “Happy Birthday” or “Happy Anniversary.”

She was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. She enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Joan was a church treasurer and led the singing at Jet Nazarene Church, where she was a member. They sold cream and eggs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wayne, and husband Delmer.

Joan is survived by son, Kim Humphrey and wife Pam, Jet; daughters, Carmen Butts and husband Greg, Enid, and Nita French and husband Dennie, Norman; brothers, Elam Parks, Brent Parks, Hal Parks, Rick Parks, Bob Parks, and John Parks.; 10 grandchildren, Kamie Dominick and husband Gomes, Kendall Hadsell and husband Bradlee, Kody Humphrey, Kale Butts, Blaine Butts and wife Lisa, Eric Butts, Kayley Grace, Chayse, Channing and Chandler; four great-grandchildren, Alex Hadsell, Aden Hadsell, Addy Hadsell and Abbi Hadsell.

Memorials may be made to Lions Eye Bank or Life Share.

    Larry Gene Highfill, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his home in Olympia, Wash. He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Mooreland, Okla., to Kenneth and Dortha (Berry) Highfill.
    He grew up there and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1960.
    After high school, he attended college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where he received a degree in mechanical engineering.
    Larry was commissioned in 1965, upon completion of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and served for 24 years in the Air Force.
    He served two tours in Vietnam, flying A-1 Skyraider attack bombers with the 1st Special Operations Squadron, and was the recipient of three Distinguished Flying Crosses for heroism, 11 air medals, a Purple Heart, and numerous other medals and awards.

    Funeral service for Dorothy I. Pralle, 85, a resident of Presbyterian Village North in Dallas, Texas, formerly of Garber, Okla., will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber, with Pastor Scott Ray officiating.
    Interment will follow in Garber Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Pralle was born May 8, 1928, in Kiefer, Okla., to Joseph Fred and Anna Evans Keyes Dose and died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Dallas, Texas.
    She was raised in Drumright, Okla.
    She received her undergraduate degree in music education from Oklahoma State University and her master’s degree in education from Phillips University. She moved to Garber, Okla., upon her marriage.
    A strong believer in the arts and learning, she dedicated her life to teaching, beginning her career as a band director and music educator.
    After her children entered school, she returned to the classroom, teaching elementary grades and gifted children until her retirement.

    Graveside service for Jackie “Ray” Brown, 39, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, in Enid Cemetery, with the Rev. Lester Lowry officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
    Ray was born June 8, 1974, in Alva, Okla., to Jackie Lee Brown and Valerie Ann Truesdale and passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2014, at his home.
    Ray attended school in Waynoka and moved to Enid in 2002.
    Ray is survived by his mother, Ann Seiger of Enid; father, Jackie Lee Brown of Jay, Okla.; three children, Maliachi Lee, Destiny Ann and Raven Nichol Brown; two brothers, Paul Swartz of Kinsley, Kan., and Hickie Swartz of Austin, Texas; several aunts and uncles and other family members.

    Keith was born Jan. 14, 1919, and was raised on a farm southwest of Pond Creek.
    During the Cherokee Strip Opening of 1892, his grandfather staked a claim after jumping off a train.
    Keith graduated from Pond Creek High School and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, where he distinguished himself as a member of both boxing teams and became a lifelong boxing fan.
    He married his high school sweetheart, Glorene Faye Reynolds in 1940, and worked in aircraft manufacturing and assembly plants in Wichita and Ponca City.
    He served in Europe during and after WWII. While stationed in Germany, he attended some of the Nuremberg trials.
