Nick Mirkes

HENNESSEY — Wake service for Nick Mirkes, 87, will be 7 p.m. today, April 21, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at St. Joseph’s, officiated by Archbishop Emeritus Beltran, Rev. Joseph Arledge and Rev. Roberto Quant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Nick was born southeast of Hennessey on May 25, 1925, to John and Emma Rothermel Mirkes and died Friday, April 19, 2013, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City.

He attended Myrtle grade school for eight years and graduated from Hennessey High School in 1946.

Nick served with the U.S. Navy as Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class for 23 months.

He married Rosalie Iven in Hennessey on June 1, 1949.

Nick and his brother, John, custom built homes in the Hennessey area for a number of years.  Nick also farmed in the Hennessey and Marshall areas for 50 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Men’s Club.

Nick is survived by his wife, Rosalie of the home; two sons, Jim Mirkes and wife Kay of Plano, Texas, and Keith Mirkes and wife Rita Veal of Stillwater; two daughters, Brenda Tripp and husband Gary of Stillwater, and Diane Schutte and husband John of Edmond; three sisters, Lucy Turner of Huntsville, Ala., Rita O’Hern of McComb, Ill., and Rosanne Bagniefski of LaCrosse, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Rayna Crain, Justin Mirkes, Chris Mirkes, Curtis Mirkes, Craig Mirkes, Brian Vogel, Mark Vogel, Kevin Vogel, Brad Schutte and Katie Schutte; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one son-in-law, and one great-grandchild.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Autism Speaks, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
