Shirley McDiffett

ENID, OK — Shirley was born at Hadley Hospital in Hays, Kan., on Jan. 16, 1941, and passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.

She grew up south of Palco, Kan., on a dairy farm with her mother and father, Harlin and Cora Fischer, and two younger sisters, Judy Crist and Jan Dreiling.

Shirley graduated from Palco High School in 1958, and graduated from Fort Hays State with an elementary teaching degree.

Aug. 8, 1992, Shirley married Don McDiffett and moved to Alta Vista, Kan. She taught for the Dwight School District until her retirement.

Don and Shirley moved to Enid, Okla., in 2012 to be closer to family.

Shirley had many friends all over the United States. She loved traveling in their motor home and meeting new friends. You couldn’t take her anywhere without her meeting someone she knew from the past.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Don McDiffett, Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Judy Crist and husband Larry, Salem, Ill., and Jan Dreiling and husband Kevin, Hutchinson, Kan.; one daughter, Hiedi LaBrue and husband David, Pond Creek, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Joni Davis and husband Larry, Altus, Okla., and Pam McDiffett of Denton, Texas; one stepson, Doug McDiffett, Harington, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Audrey, Caitlin, Sabor, Shannon, Adam, Alexis, Kelsey and William; and six great-grandchildren, Baylor, Grayson, Skyler, Kameron, Hadlee and Hunter.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Harlin and Cora Fischer, and one stepson, Donald McDiffett Jr. of Denton, Texas.

She loved her family so very much. She loved spending time with them and loved to cook for them. She will be dearly missed.

Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Pond Creek First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Pond Creek, Okla., at 10:30 a.m.

     De was born June 2, 1926, in Medford, the son of George Alexander and Myrtle Biby Hamilton. De graduated from Gore High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1944 and was discharged on June 13, 1946. After De returned to Medford, he and Emma Jean Carrier were married on Sept. 29, 1946, in Nash. De worked as a butcher and retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford and was ordained as a Deacon in 1951.

     Pauline was born April 8, 1924, at Butler, in Custer County, Okla., the daughter of Walter and Orla Baird Connolly. She and Loren E. Hopkins were married on Sept. 14, 1952, in Jet and they made their home in Jet, where she continued to live until April 16, 2014. She was a homemaker and caregiver who cared for others many times. Pauline was a member of the First Christian Church in Nash and also was a member of Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church. She was an active member of Jet Industrious Oklahoma Home and Community Education organization.
