Elener Agner Waggoner

Published 2-7-14

MARLOW, OK — Elener Agner Waggoner, 94, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, in Marlow, Okla.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at First Church of the Nazarene in Marlow, with the Rev. Nick Ward officiating. Service will be under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, Marlow.

Elener was born in Ames, Okla., on Jan. 16, 1920, to Alva and Tracy Waggoner.

He attended Waukomis High School and then served during World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in the Middle East in Libya. During his service he was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon and the EAME Theater Ribbon. He was discharged on Dec. 26, 1945.

After the war, he worked on his parents farm in Medford and later on his own farm in Newkirk. Later, he was employed at Mitchell and Mitchell Warehouse in Marlow as an engineer.

On Jan. 15, 1955, he married Nina Lee Tims of Marlow. They had lived in the Marlow area since 1958.

Elener was an expert gardener on a massive scale in his spare time and also took pride caring for lawns across the city.

He was a church man in every sense of the word, serving on the board at Marlow Church of the Nazarene. Through the years he served in various capacities including boys class Sunday school teacher, usher, treasurer and any capacity he was asked. Those who knew him remarked on his attitude of gratitude and humor, his ‘green thumb’ and his consistent walk with the Lord. He made it a practice to read the Bible through no less than three times a year, continuing even in the last six years of his life. In fact, he wore out three Bibles since living at Gregstons.

Survivors include a son, Timothy Roy Waggoner and wife Dixie of Marlow; grandson, Timothy Lee Waggoner and wife Robin and their two daughters, Cheyenne and Annalee Waggoner; and sister, Wilma Clark of Waukomis. He also leaves behind nieces, Marilyn Olson of Oklahoma City, Madelyn Campbell of Bethany, Okla., and nephews Montie Tims of Grandbury, Texas, and Roger Tims of Northern California.

He was preceded in death by wife, Nina Lee, and brothers, Darvin and Nathan.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene in Marlow.
