Ronnie Blubaugh

Published 4-21-13

TONKAWA — Ronnie Blubaugh, 79, went on to be with his Heavenly Father from his home in Tonkawa, Okla., in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Closest friend and longtime caregiver, Mr. Carroll Cromer, and beloved canine Lady Blu, were at his side. He was born in Tonkawa on Dec. 23, 1933.

Ronnie grew up, attended church, and graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1951.

In 1967, he founded Ronnie Blubaugh Oil & Gas, which is still operating today. He proudly served on the Tonkawa City Council for 17 years, 11 of which he served as mayor.

Ronnie was an Oklahoma delegate to the 1980 Republican National Convention in Detroit that nominated Ronald Reagan.

“Big Blu,” as some still know him by, truly loved Tonkawa, and those “Unbeatable Bucs!” Ronnie boasted of having watched those Tonkawa Buccaneers take the State Football Championship title all five times.

The Biltmore Mansion, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone National Park were his bucket list. Ronnie was happy, and felt blessed to have seen them. Mission accomplished!

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Vera Blubaugh; brother, Danny, who was killed in Korea in 1952; and sisters, Phyllis Adams and Barbara Humphries.

Ronnie is survived by his sister, Jeanie Ray of Henderson, Nev.; brother-in-law, Vern Ray Humphries of Tonkawa; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be laid to rest in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Tonkawa.

Ronnie has requested, that in place of a public memorial service, or flowers, that a generous donation be made in his name to: The “Ronnie Blubaugh Memorial Scholarship,” c/o the State Exchange Bank, P.O. Box 7, Lamont, OK 74643. The Ronnie Blubaugh Memorial Scholarship will be a $5,000 Northern Oklahoma College Scholarship to be awarded in May 2014, and every year thereafter, to the most deserved “C or D” Tonkawa High School senior. In his own words, Ronnie wanted “the underdog” to have a chance.

Arrangements are under the directions of Anderson Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Okla.

Condolences may be sent to the family using our online guest book at www.tonkawafh.com.
