The funeral for Richard Max Wenzel, 57, Kiowa, Kan., will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medicine Lodge, Kan. Dennis Fangmeyer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be 1 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery. Ar-rangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., of Kiowa. Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

He was born March 26, 1952, in Alva to Erich and Dora Terwort Wenzel and died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in Wichita, Kan.

He graduated from high school in Sharon, Kan., in 1970 and attended one year at Wichita Vo-Tech. He worked on his family’s dairy farm until he moved to Kiowa. He worked for Humphrey’s in Kiowa and for the Kiowa Police Department. He then worked for Carl Eckert Harvesting for several years. He moved to Garden City and worked for Ball Trucking.

He married Carol Kow-alke-Gashler July 2, 1982. They moved to Kiowa, where he worked for trucking companies until February 2009.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; one son, Doug Gashler of Derby; one daughter, Heather Gashler-Gilbert of Salina, Kan.; three sisters, Betty Benson of Manchester, Bonnie Fischer of Sharon and Connie Boggs; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Cancer Society, Trinity Lutheran Church or Harry Hynes Hospice.
