A vigil for Frederick Francis Hughes, 67, of Ashland, Kan., will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ashland. Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the church. The Rev. Maurice Cummings will officiate. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 27, 1941 in Lynn, Mass., to Frederick A. and Frances Martin Hughes and died Monday, July 21, 2008 at Ashland Health Center.
He graduated from St. Mary’s School in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1958 and from Arizona State in 1962 with a degree in economics. He received his masters degree from Medical College of Virginia in 1972. He served in the Air Force and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, was a “Fellow” in College of Health Care Administration, and the Knights of Columbus.
He married Mary Torres Jan. 27, 1959 in Boise, Idaho.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; one daughter, Christina Paviet of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Robert Hughes of Phoenix; one sister, Kathi Carron of Palm Desert, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Memorials may be made to Ashland Health Center or Ashland Ambulance Service.
