William Joseph Conrady

A mass of christain burial for William Joseph Conrady, 78, of Wakita, was held 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, in St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, Wakita. The Rev. Mike Wheelahan officiated. Burial followed in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Manchester. A prayer vigil was 7 p.m. Thursday, in the church. Arrangements were by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.
He was born July 3, 1930, northeast of Wakita and died Wednesday, June 22, 2009, at his home.
He attended Mound Valley Country School and graduated from Wakita High School in 1948.
He served in the Army from Jan. 27, 1953 until Jan. 26, 1955. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Following his discharge, he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for a time. He married Janet Marie Alden Jan. 19, 1957. He was a farmer, carpenter and co-owner of Waktia Lumber Company. He was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church and past member of Wakita Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Janet, of the home; two daughters, Jennie Takyi-Micah of Edmond and Karen Blubaugh of Medford; three sons, Kevin Conrady of Pensacola, Fla., Steven Conrady of Long-dale, and Tony Conrady of Wakita; three brothers, Marvin Conrady and Herman Conrady, both of Wakita and Kenneth Conrady of Alton, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant son.
