Cherry Linda Murphy King

The memorial service for Cherry Linda Murphy King, 78, of Mount Airy, Md., formerly of Billings, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at First Christian Church, Perry. Cremation arrangements were by Going Home Cremation Service, Mount Airy.
She was born in Mulhall to Irving Earl and Velma Ray Conover Murphy and died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy.
She was raised on the family farm near Billings, where she graduated from high school. She received her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma A&M in 1953 and her graduate degree in library science from the University school while helping with the family dairy farm near Billings during the late 1959s. They moved to Maryland in 1962, where she worked as a librarian for Prince George’s County Public Schools, retiring in 1992. She was a member and elder emeritus of University Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 44 years, where she served as librarian and choir member. She also was a volunteer for the National Federation of the Blind.
Surviving are two sons, Steven King of Monrovia, Md., and Stuart King of Adamstown, Md.; two daughters, Gail King of Luray, Va., and Sharon King Duke of Mount Airy; three brothers, Ray Murphy of Chicago, Ill., Joe Murphy of Billings, and Jim Murphy of Balch Springs, Texas; two sisters, Lee Ramsey of Edmond, Wash., and Jean Sharp of Creede, Colo; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and one sister.
