The funeral services for Tresia Charlene Williams, 82-year-old Enid resident will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Christ United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
Charlene was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Pawhuska, OK to Lester and Beulah (Clemons) Smith and died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
She attended Enid public schools and graduated from Enid High School in 1942. Upon graduation, she attended Phillips University for two years then was accepted into the Cadet Nursing Corps at Vanderbilt University where she earned her degree in Nursing.
On Jan. 25, 1948, she married Dr. John Williams in Enid and initially resided in Nashville, TN. He was in the Navy and the couple was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and then at Bethesda, MD. They returned to Enid in 1951 where they began his practice. She worked as her husband’s nurse and office manager. She also served in many volunteer positions with the State Medical Women’s Auxiliary, becoming president of the organization in 1976, the Girl Scouts of America, and was a member of Junior Welfare League. She began selling real estate in the mid 1970s being named Realtor of the Year in 1986. She was the last surviving charter member of Christ United Methodist Church where she held many offices.
She is survived by her daughter Susan McFarland of Guthrie, OK and her son John “Happy” Williams and wife Mary Ann of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Tresia Selby, Libby O’Brien and Elizabeth Williams; four great-grandchildren, Chase, Maddox, Dalton and Taylor; one sister, Phyllis Bushnell of Enid; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. John Williams.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to either Christ United Methodist Church, Northwest Specialty Hospital (Pulmonary Division) or an organization of your choice.
