The funeral for Eugene “Gene” Thomas Moseley, 86, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Watonga. Rick Vermillion will officiate. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Watonga. Arrangements are by Wilkinson Mortuary, Watonga.
He was born April 14, 1922, on a farm south of Watonga to Thomas Wright and Mattie Mae Davis Moseley and died Sunday, May 4, 2008.
He attended school in Watonga, graduating from Watonga High School in 1940. He attended Oklahoma A&M College in 1940 and became a member of Farm House Fraternity. He enlisted in the Marines in 1942 and was transferred to the Naval Air Corps and commissioned as ensign in the Navy in 1943. He received his wings as a navigator and served in the Navy until July 1946. He completed his degree at Oklahoma A&M in 1946, and went to work for Wilson Meats in Kansas City.
He married Mildred J. Gurtler Oct. 2, 1949. They moved back to Watonga to farm. He became postmaster in Watonga in 1964, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Watonga where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served on the board of directors for Cornerstone Bank, formerly Watonga State Bank, for more than 35 years and was a 60-year member of American Legion, a member of Kiwanis Club and served as a school board member for eight years.
Surviving are three sons, Stanley Moseley of Houston, Wade Moseley of Edmond and Alan Moseley of Watonga and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Mildred, and one sister.
Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children or Watonga Municipal Hospital.
