Different men have same name, middle initial

When Randy Hinkle picked up the newest copy of OK Jailbirds last week, he thought it was funny to see a man in it that shared his son’s name.

Shaun Hinkle appeared in the magazine with his mug shot and an arrest for a complaint of failure to register as a sex offender.

However, that man was Shaun Matthew Hinkle, not Randy’s son, Shaun Michael Hinkle.

“When this first came out, I didn’t think of the ramifications,” Randy said. “I kind of laughed. Wow you’re in Jailbirds. We texted him the thing and he blew up.”

Randy and his wife, Susie, said their son was worried about the problems such confusion could cause. The situation was made worse by a shared middle initial.

“I hadn’t even considered it,” Randy said. “I was like, ‘My god, yeah.’”

“We haven’t had anyone call us, but I guess we’re not going to have someone call us about Shaun being in the Jailbirds magazine,” Susie said. “We keep hoping not too many people get the silly thing.”

Randy and his son both have called the magazine, but have not received any word back.

“I’m sure they get lots of hateful calls from people who’ve had their picture in there,” Susie said, noting she’s not sure if any calls will be returned.

Shaun Michael Hinkle, 26, lives in the Fort Worth area and works for a construction company, his parents said.

According to booking records, Shaun Matthew Hinkle, 34, was booked into Garfield County Detention Facility Nov. 16 on complaints of failure to register as a sex offender and driving with license suspended. He  gave an address in Drummond, and was released on bond the following day.

Online court records do not show a charge being filed against the 34-year-old Hinkle for failure to register as a sex offender. Records do show he was charged with misdemeanor driving with license suspended.

Shaun Matthew Hinkle does not appear in the online Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry. He could not be reached for comment for this story.

A spokesman for OK Jailbirds said the magazine prints what information it’s given by county jails.
