The deadline for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration poster and essay contest has been extended to 2 p.m. Jan. 14.
Entries must include this year’s theme: “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.”
The winners will be announced at the MLK Holiday Celebration at 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at Convention Hall. Prizes and certificates will be awarded.
The celebration will begin with a brief march, followed by a program, presentation of contest and diversity awards, and conclude with a fellowship dinner. There is no charge for attending the event, but donations will be accepted.
The contests are open to students from pre-K through 12th grade. Essays should be typed and not exceed 500 words. Posters may be no larger than 18 by 24 inches and no smaller than 81⁄2 by 11 inches.
Each entry must include the student’s name, school/ organization, teacher/sponsor and grade on the back of the paper.
The mission of the MLK Commission is to honor the work and contributions of Martin Luther King Jr., as well as to continue his dream of promoting diversity, equality and a spirit of cooperation among all people.
