ENID, Okla. — Forecasts for freezing rain and a wintery mix likely kept many New Year’s Eve revelers from venturing out Monday night.

Enid Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office had no DUI arrests Monday night.

“We actually, knock on wood, didn’t have any DUI arrests,” Undersheriff Jerry Niles said. “I think it’s a combination of factors. I’m hoping education is the main thing.

“I think the weather was holding some people back, too.”

Niles said deputies broke up a couple of underage drinking parties and were continuing to work on those.

Enid Police Department Sgt. Jeff McGehee said officers made an arrest for public intoxication Monday night, but had no DUI arrests.

The department had extra officers on duty through a traffic safety grant Monday night for DUI enforcement.

Overnight, roads were icy, but no accidents related to the weather were reported to either agency.
