ENID, Okla. —
Arrest warrants have been issued for a 23-year-old Enid man who was charged Friday with rape and rape by instrumentation.
Daniel Lee White was charged Friday in Garfield County District Court with the two felonies. White was charged in relation to an alleged sexual encounter June 18 with a 13-year-old girl.
If convicted, White faces five years to life on the first-degree rape charge and one to 15 years on the rape by instrumentation charge.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Enid Police Department took a report June 19 from a 13-year-old girl saying she was raped the day before.
The girl said she met White about 1 p.m. June 18 at Government Springs Park. She said White asked her to go toward the tunnel so they could have some privacy but she refused to go.
She said they stayed in the area of the gazebo and White was rubbing her back before reaching down and touching her inappropriately, according to the affidavit. She said she told White to stop and then walked toward the tunnel below 600 E. Garriott.
The girl said they walked to the south end of the tunnel. She said White convinced her she should have sex with him so she gave in and did, according to the affidavit.
The girl said she has known White for several months and she is certain he knows she is 13 years old.
Detective Tim Doyle contacted White June 20 by telephone.
White said he was in Arkansas and couldn’t come talk to the detective in person. Doyle told White of the allegations. White admitted he was in the park with the girl and told a story similar to hers, but without any sexual contact with the teen, according to the affidavit.
Doyle asked White if he had sex with the girl, and White “adamantly” denied it, according to the affidavit. White also told Doyle he knew it would be first-degree rape because the girl’s age. He told the detective he’d looked it up online.
During later interviews with the girl, she told Doyle she had used Facebook private messages to communicate with White. She said the night after they had sex White messaged her something to the effect of, “wish I could have round two,” according to the affidavit. However, the girl said she deleted the messages from her phone and could not provide them to police.
The girl later contacted Doyle and said White had contacted her again via Facebook, asking her to stop pursing charges because he could get into trouble, according to the affidavit.
The girl turned the phone over to Doyle, who continued the conversation with White.
The girl asked White why he took advantage of her if they were supposed to be friends, according to the affidavit. White replied, “... I wasn’t trying to take advantage of you. Please don’t ruin my life.” White also told the girl he would kill himself before admitting to anything, according to the affidavit.
Bond on the arrest warrant has been denied, meaning White must appear before a judge before being given a bond.
