Home show slated through weekend

ENID, Okla. — From contractors to crafts, Santa to storm shelters, there will be a little something for everyone this weekend at the eighth annual Home for the Holidays Home & Garden and Gift & Craft Show at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center Coliseum.

The event, hosted by Enid Home Builders Association, is a combination of crafts, small-business vendors, Christmas shopping and a home show.

“This event really offers one-stop shopping for everyone on your Christmas list,” said promoter Janelle Martin, of C&M Production Group. “We have a little bit of everything. This is the show to get your Christmas shopping off to a good start, and you can get most of it done right here.”

Martin said more than 50 craft and gift vendors have been “hand-selected” to attend the show this weekend.

“We try to select the best vendors to bring their items to our show so the consumers can enjoy a unique shopping experience and get a good start on their holidays,” Martin said.

Vendors’ goods will include toys, jewelry, women’s and children’s clothing, handmade wood crafts, furniture and products from local wineries.

Bakers from the Styria Bakery, of Denver, will be making their fourth trip to the Home for the Holidays show.

Styria Bakery owner Shannon Campbell said she makes the nine-hour drive to Enid each year because of the show’s good turnout, brisk sales “and the friendliness of the people.”

“Enid is a little far for us, but we decided we’d give a try one year,” Campbell said. “We did well, so we keep coming back.”

Martin said the artisan breads from Styria Bakery are a good draw to the event each year.

“She is a huge hit for us,” Martin said. “People come to the show looking for her. People have come to expect it each year, and she sells out at our shows. She’s a great asset to us.”

A variety of local home-based businesses also will be selling their wares at the show, including products from Scentsy, J. R. Watkins, Thirty-One Gifts and Tastefully Simple.

An outdoor garden section will be available with everything needed to decorate the house for the holidays, from poinsettias to trees and wreaths.

But, the show isn’t just about crafts, gifts and holiday shopping. It’s also a home show with contractors and vendors on hand ready to take on any home construction, remodel or renovation job.

Home products like furniture, mattresses, spas and saunas also will be on display.

“Anything you would need for your house, from the foundation to the roof, we have it covered at the show,” Martin said.

She said contractors will be available to discuss remodel and renovation jobs, and vendors will be available for siding, windows, carpet, roofing and security systems.

“You can literally come to the show and take care of anything you need to get your house ready for winter,” Martin said.

Other vendors can help get you ready now for the darker side of spring with storm shelters.

“People don’t have to wait until the first storm hits next spring to get put on the waiting list for a storm shelter,” Martin said. “You can plan ahead, and come in and arrange a storm shelter at the show. And, it’s the perfect gift.”

If you don’t yet own a home, mortgage lenders and real estate agents also will be set up for business at the show.

Chisholm Trail Expo Center General Manager Steve Barnes said the show is “a great opportunity for anybody who’s looking to do any kind of remodel, refurnishing or anything in the home.”

“From floors to shingles, it’s all included, from top to bottom,” Barnes said. “You can come out, talk to contractors, and get some ideas or arrange for someone to come and do some work. We’ve got some great people coming, and it’s going to be a great show.”

In keeping with the holiday theme, Santa will be present during the show for free photos with the kids. Bring your own camera for the Santa photos.

Northcutt Toyota also will be hosting Toys for Tots during the show. Anyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy will get half off the admission price to the show.

Regular admission price is $2 per person.

The Home for the Holidays Home & Garden and Gift & Craft Show will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center Coliseum, 111 W. Purdue.
