Vance airmen convicted in courts-martial

VANCE AFB, Enid, Okla. — Two Vance Air Force Base airmen were convicted in general courts-martial conducted recently on base.

A 20-year-old air-traffic-control trainee was convicted of possession and distribution of child pornography, while a 19-year-old airman was convicted of committing a sexual act on a child under the age of 16, and committing lewd acts on a different child under 16.

Airman 1st Class Kelton Bradshaw was sentenced to 25 months confinement, a dishonorable discharge and reduction in rank to E-1 on the child pornography charges. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.

Airman 1st Class Keith Jones was sentenced to five months confinement and reduction in rank to E-1. Jones is a member of the 71st Medical Operations Squadron.

Bradshaw pleaded guilty to all six specifications of the charge against him under a pre-trial agreement with the convening authority.

Prosecutor Capt. Megan Schmid, with the 71st Flying Training Wing legal office, offered graphic verbal descriptions of a few of the 70 videos and photographs of children, some as young as 3, that Bradshaw had downloaded and shared with at least two other people not in the Air Force.

Bradshaw was placed in Garfield County Detention Facility until he can be transferred to the federal facility, where he will serve his sentence.

Jones pleaded guilty and had entered into a pre-trial agreement on punishment. A court-martial was conducted to determine if the military judge would accept the guilty plea and what punishment was required.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations received a tip that an active-duty airman had been sexually involved with a minor female. AFOSI agents investigated and identified the airman and the minor victim. Agents also identified a second minor victim with whom the airman had exchanged lewd materials via online messaging.

According to testimony, Jones committed the first sexual act on the victim in her bedroom in her grandparents’ home in a town west of Vance. The second was committed the following morning in the same location. It was at this time the victim informed Jones she was 15 years old, by showing him her Oklahoma ID card.

Three days later, the victim invited Jones back to her grandparents’ home, where he committed the third and fourth sexual acts. According to Jones, the grandparents were home at the time of each of the four sexual encounters.

The other charges against Jones involved him sending a photo of his genitals via text message to a different 15-year-old female, and asking that she send him a nude photo of herself.

Jones was placed in Garfield County Detention Facility until he can be transferred to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan., where he will serve his confinement.

Both airmen were convicted under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
