Western music artist Juni Fisher swingin’ into Enid

ENID, Okla. — Western music performer Juni Fisher will appear at Humphrey Heritage Village on Sept. 19.

The event, sponsored by Security National Bank, will be a fundraising event for Humphrey Heritage Village. According to a prepared release, Fisher often is compared to cowboy poet Baxter Black, with her original songs and stories. April Danahy, spokeswoman for Security National Bank, said the bank is happy to partner with Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center to present the program.

Fisher will perform in an outdoor concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. A barbecue dinner will be provided by Blaze’s BBQ. Tickets are $25 and are on sale at Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.

Danahy said she also compares Fisher to western musician R.W. Hampton.

“She is a western music singer and has a really great repertoire of songs,” Danahy said. “She has been honored for her performances and music by the Western Music Association.”

Fisher last performed in Enid in April.

Fisher is a storyteller, Danahy said.

“Her songs are western, but not country western,” she said.

Fisher was born in the San Joaquin Valley of California and spent her early years training horses, as well as working on cow-calf operations. Her life experiences center around those types of activities, which are portrayed in the music she writes and performs.

Many of her songs are about horses and rodeos, and Danahy said there are many good stories in her songs.

“The Heritage Center Commission is sharing the history of northwest Oklahoma, and we’re happy to partner with Juni because she captures the very essence of western heritage.” Danahy said. “It will be family fun.”

Fisher also has a fly fishing show and shows horses. Danahy called her an “all-round western girl.”

Copies of her CDs will be available for purchase, including her newest one, “Listen to the Horse.”

Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is located at 507 S. 4th.
