Education contributions: Blevins family, Todd Lamb inducted into EPSF Hall of Fame

ENID, Okla. — It’s typical for inductees into a hall of fame to be lauded by the speakers, but one inductee into Enid Public School Foundation Hall of Fame Tuesday night lauded the others.

When Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb stepped to the microphone after receiving his plaque, he made an observation about the Pat Blevins family, owners of Jumbo and Save-A-Lot food stores, the others inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“After the tornado struck Moore, Oklahoma, and caused billions of dollars in damage, I got up early the next morning and went out to see,” Lamb said.

He recounted the scene of devastation and people working hard to clean up after the storm. Then, he noticed a huge grill where people were cooking for the hungry workers. He went over to see those who were feeding the workers and recognized one from Enid. The Enid man told him how the group had gotten the food they were cooking.

“We walked into Jumbo and told them what we were doing and they said, ‘Take whatever you want, it’s yours and it’s free,’” Lamb told the audience.

The Blevins family was recognized for their support of the schools.

Jim Strate, superintendent of Autry Technology Center, mentioned the other ways the Blevins family supports the community, when he introduced their award.

“Jumbo Food supports many local organizations such as the Horn of Plenty, Our Daily Bread, local FFA and premium sales for 28 years, the spring Northwest District sale, the county sale in the fall, as well as a strong support for Band Boosters by Band Bucks,” Strate said.

Lamb was introduced by his high school classmate, Reagan Allen. Allen is a board member of Enid Public School Foundation.

Honorees are chosen based on their contributions to education, community and their profession.

A former Secret Service agent, Lamb organized the Oklahoma Commission on School Security earlier this year and served as its chairman. He is chair of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association Executive Committee and vice chair of the Aerospace States Association. He also has worked in the private sector as a land man in Oklahoma’s energy industry.
