ENID, Okla. — A Fairview woman was killed early Thursday in a two-vehicle accident in Blaine County that resulted in both drivers being taken to the sheriff’s office.

Courtney J. Michelle Ruiz, 21, suffered head, neck, arm, leg and trunk injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

The accident happened at 4:02 a.m. Thursday two miles east and two and one-half miles south of Canton.

Ruiz was a passenger in a 1994 GMC pickup driven by Dennis Gene Wilder, 30, of Fairview. According to the report, Wilder was northbound on the Delhi blacktop when he attempted to turn left into a private driveway. His pickup was hit by a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Robert Red Hat, 31, of Fairview. Red Hat was driving north on the blacktop at a high rate of speed and hit Wilder’s vehicle while trying to pass, according to the report.

Red Hat’s vehicle rolled once, coming to rest on its wheels, while Ruiz was ejected from Wilder’s pickup.

Red Hat was treated at Okeene Hospital for head injuries, then was taken to Blaine County Sheriff’s Office. Three passengers in his vehicle were injured, but two refused treatment and one was treated at Okeene Hospital and released.

Wilder was treated at Okeene Hospital and released, then was taken to Blaine County Sheriff’s Office.

The OHP report listed Red Hat’s condition as “impaired — alcohol,” and Wilder’s condition as “impaired — drugs.”
