HELENA, Okla. — An inmate homicide is being investigated at James Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections’ internal affairs division is investigating an apparent inmate-on-inmate assault at Crabtree, said DOC spokesman Jerry Massie.
“Right now, I can confirm that it happened,” said Massie, DOC public information officer. “They found him around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.”
Janet Dowling serves as warden of the medium and minimum adult male correctional center that opened in 1982.
Dowling could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
Crabtree is the only state-owned medium center to have open-dormitory housing, according to its website.
