Lahoma man captured after fleeing court

ENID, Okla. — A 23-year-old Lahoma man fled from court shortly before noon Wednesday after a prosecutor said he needed to be taken into custody on other charges.

Jared Tibon Meade’s flight from custody was short lived. He was apprehended by Enid Police Department officers within an hour of leaving the courtroom.

Sheriff Jerry Niles said Meade was making an appearance on another case when the announcement was made at about 11:40 a.m. Niles said Meade was apprehended on the newest warrant and was unsure if charges would be filed against Meade for his flight.

“I don’t know if the DA’s office will or not,” Niles said of filing further charges. “He wasn’t under arrest, per se.”

Online court dockets show Meade was scheduled for an appearance on misdemeanor charges of assault and battery upon a pregnant woman and assault and battery charges.

A note on the docket reads: “Defendant ran out of the court room; BWBF ordered; bond set in the amount of $25,000 ...”

Online court records also show an application to accelerate a deferred sentence in a 2011 misdemeanor drug case was filed Tuesday in district court.
