Old Garfield Elementary being demolished

ENID, Okla. — Initial preparation for demolition of the old Garfield Elementary School began this week.

Tom White, project manager for Carter, the company contracted to oversee the renovation and construction work undertaken from a $99 million 2010 Enid Public Schools bond issue, said demolition of Garfield is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

“It is expected to take a month,” White said.

Jackson’s Wrecking and Demolition will be doing the demolition work. The demolition still will be under way when students return to Longfellow Middle School on Aug. 20.

“The entire area will be fenced off for safety,” Tom White.

Demolition plans and access to Longfellow have been coordinated to keep students away from the demolition site for the short period of time when demolition and classes will both be taking place.
