Covington Amercan Legion Post will host Memorial Day service

ENID, Okla. — Covington American Legion Post 190 will hold a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. May 27 at Covington Cemetery. Pastor Phillip Gregg will give the invocation. The speaker will be Master Sgt. Briana Edison of Vance Air Force Base. American Legion Post 190 will put flags on veteran graves on Friday.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program held its awards banquet May 8 at Chisholm Trail Expo Center, Enid. Those attending from Covington were Eileen Olmstead, Mary Wyssman, Dorothy Murphy, Eldon Diver, Gerald and Arba Pope.

Mary Wyssman received the Tender Loving Care award. She has volunteered more than 25 years at local hospitals and in promoting services for seniors at Tri County Senior Center in Covington. Wyssman, in her 90s, is also active in her local church, St. John’s Lutheran in Covington.

First Bank and Trust will hold its annual customer appreciation dinner 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Covington Fire Station.

Tri County Senior Center still has memorial wreaths and crosses for sale for $5 each. Proceeds go to Tri County Senior Center and Covington Historical Society, both non-profit organizations.


Covington-Douglas Awards Assembly was held Wednesday. Awards included high school teacher of the year, presented to Ashley Rink; elementary teacher of the year, Sharmin LeForce; and most-improved student award, Hunter Scott.

Upcoming school events include Covington-Douglas Junior High summer baseball, 6 p.m. today, in Waukomis; Covington basketball camp, Tuesday through Wednesday;  Covington-Douglas High School summer baseball versus Garber, 6 p.m.  Wednesday at home; high school boys summer basketball, May 28 at Cashion; and Lady Cats basketball team camp May 28-30 at Mooreland.ō
