Enid Animal Control to host an open house on Saturday

ENID, Okla. — Enid Animal Control will host an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, giving the public a chance to view the recently completed dog runs outside the facility and to adopt a pet.

Volunteer and adoption coordinator Rachel Hancock said the runs were completed last month. She said the outside pens will give potential pet adopters a chance to interact with animals prior to adoption.

“People can just come in the shelter and go right out to the dog pens,” she said. “We’ll have the available dogs outside to play with Saturday and toys out there and treats so they can spend time with them.”

The runs all have benches in them and an awning soon will be installed. Hancock said she believes having the runs will help to adopt out pets.

“It’s more positive for the animals here and the people adopting because they have more space,” she said. “They can go outside and play fetch. They’re actually able to see how they interact at the shelter before committing.”

Hancock said volunteers would be available Saturday to assist with adoptions and tours of the shelter.

“We do have a lit of animals out here and we’re hoping a lot of our dogs and cats find homes,” she said.

Enid Animal Control facility, 1200 S. 10th, is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
