ENID, Okla. —
No need for kiddos to spend the long summer sitting in front of the television, when Creative Arts Enid has planned a plethora of artsy ways to spend summer hours.
New this year are half-day summer camps for teens, held on the campus of Northern Oklahoma College Enid.
“We think teens need something to do, too,” said Paula Nightengale, one of the instructors at Creative Arts Enid. “We think they’ll really love it, too.”
Art and storytelling camp will be June 10-20 at the NOC Art Building. Taught by Jena Caddish and Paula Redding, the camp combines creative writing and the creation of visual art. During the first week, students will study paintings by the masters and write interpretive stories about the paintings. During the second week, students will create their own works of art that tell a story using various mediums. Then the class will write stories about each other’s work, with discussion following.
Art and storytelling camp will meet 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, beginning June 10. Cost is $200.
Watercolor camp for teens will be offered in the afternoons in two sessions during June and July. Cost is $100.
Photography camp for teens will be offered in the mornings during two sessions in June and July. Campers should bring their own digital cameras. Cost is $100.
All half-day teen camps will meet in the NOC Enid studio in the Art Building.
In addition, half-day summer camps will be available for children and youth. These include budding artist camp for ages 5-6, available in four sessions during June and July at a cost of $50; art adventures camp for ages 7-12, available in four sessions during June and July at a cost of $100; acrylic painting camp for ages 7-12, available in three sessions in June and July at a cost of $100; photography camp for ages 9-12, available in two sessions during June and July at a cost of $100; watercolor camp for ages 9-12, available in two sessions in June and July at a cost of $100; and knit or crochet camp for ages 8-88, available in two sessions during June and July at a cost of $75.
