ENID, Okla. —
If all goes according to plan, a new superintendent for Enid Public Schools will be hired by May.
EPS Board of Education members Monday night mapped out a timeline for finding and hiring a replacement for departing Superintendent Shawn Hime. Hime, superintendent since 2008, resigned earlier this month after being hired as executive director of Oklahoma State School Board Association. His duties there begin April 1.
The timeline for hiring a new superintendent is:
• Applications will be accepted until March 3.
• Applications will be reviewed at a special meeting March 6.
• Interviews will be conducted mid-March to early April.
• Selection of the candidate will be completed no later than May.
Amber Fitzgerald, director of communications and human resources for EPS, said the net will be cast throughout the nation.
“The vacancy notification will be sent to all Oklahoma superintendents, the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators, the National School Boards Association and state school board associations across the country,” Fitzgerald said. “Additionally, the board may advertise in national and/or state publications. Once posted, applicants will be able to apply on the OSSBA website. A link will also be available on the Enid Public Schools website.”
The school board also will recruit community members for the selection committee, Fitzgerald said.
“Board members have been asked to recommend community members to the Board of Education president,” Fitzgerald said. “If someone is interested in being considered, they are encouraged to contact a board member.”
Board members are Colin Abernathy, Ernie Currier, Willa Jo Fowler, Molly Helm, Cheryl Patterson, Jenny Webster and Kyle Whitehead. Lt. Col. Rich Ward is an honorary, non-voting member representing Vance Air Force Base.
