2 men arrested within hour of reported burglary and theft

ENID, Okla. — Two men were arrested by sheriff’s deputies in connection to a burglary and theft Wednesday within an hour of the crime being reported.

Garfield County Sheriff Jerry Niles said his office received a report of a theft of a metal toolbox at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, in the 7400 block of West Carrier Road. By 1:50 p.m., deputies had two men in custody in connection with the theft.

“We had a report some subjects removed a metal tool box and two subjects took it to Southside Recycling to sell the metal for scrap,” he said. “Deputy Dariel Momsen called Southside Recycling and spoke with an employee, who said the two subjects were there right at that moment attempting to sell the tool box.”

Momsen and Deputy Cory Rink located the men and placed them under arrest.

Tavis Young, 29, and Curtis Bell, 50, were arrested on complaints of trespassing, knowingly concealing stolen property and second-degree burglary.

Niles said the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation, and the sheriff’s office is looking at the two for their involvement in a recent rash of burglaries.

However, Niles said he believes the suspect involved in the recent thefts of diesel fuel remains at large.

Anyone who sees suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhood is asked to contact Garfield County Sheriff’s Office at (580) 237-0244.
