Cornhole tournament in need of teams

United Church of Lahoma is in need of teams to fill a cornhole toss tournament bracket.

The tournament will be at “high noon” or “thereabouts” Saturday as part of the Cimarron Days festivities, according to pastor Terry Jewell.

Teams of two can sign up for $10 to participate in the event. Proceeds will benefit Kevin and Violet Hassler, who are adopting a 4-year-old boy from China.

A hot dog lunch by donation also will be served beginning at 11 a.m., with proceeds benefiting the Hasslers’ adoption.

Cornhole, or corn toss, is similar to horseshoe pitching, except players toss bags of corn toward wooden boxes in an attempt to score points. A bag in the hole cut in the wood scores three points, while one that hits the box scores one point.

Teams are needed by Thursday to secure brackets. Call 796-2889 or 747-8977 for information or to register, or search for the Cornhole Tournament page on Facebook. Teams will consist of two people, comprised of juniors, adults or a combination. It is a double-elimination tournament.

First place will receive a cornhole toss set, which is valued between $75 and $100 online, and trophies will be awarded for first through fourth places.

United Church of Lahoma is at 3rd and Main in Lahoma, or across the street from Cimarron Public Schools. The tournament will be on the east side of the church.
